Oxide materials will play a significant role in the development of rechargeable batteries. They have been shown to be effective cathode materials since the 1980s, however, due to their unusual properties their use in anodes and as solid-state electrolytes has recently gathered global scientific interest and is showing potential for both Li and Na batteries in different applications.
